[His hands came up, brushing over Shouichi's cheeks as he got a good look at him. Leaning in, he pressed his lips to his and opened up the blanket, covering the redhead up as well. His arms returned to their place around his waist, holding him close and secure.]

You're too good to me. I don't deserve you at all.

[That kiss just somehow cemented in the man's mind that Byakuran really was finally awake and he squeezed his eyes shut to keep from doing something embarrassing like tearing up in relief.

He swallowed hard before looking to him again.]

Don't say such embarrassing things, I just did what seemed right. [But he did squeeze him a little at that.] Did you want that espresso now?

[Because as much as his body was now screaming for sleep with this relief and Byakuran holding him, he couldn't afford it right yet. He had work to do and he wanted to make sure Byakuran was awake fully and would stay that way for a while first.]

Mm... no. I don't think I need it quite yet. All that sleeping made me really lazy.

[He grinned at Shouichi and cuddled him, refusing to let him move very much; he wanted to keep him close, let him rest a bit. Whether he wanted to or not.]

[Shouichi flushed at that, it'd been a while since he'd heard such blatantly forward things after all.]

A lot of things are going on right now, but...

[It's been a month and a half. He would make the time if it was the last thing he did.]

[And with the decision made, some of the tension still running through his body ebbed away and he kind of slumped in Byakuran's arms.]

I know. My poor Shou-chan had to be so strong, all by himself. I'm proud of you.

[Leaning in, Byakuran kissed his forehead and rubbed his back gently, trying to help him relax now that it seemed like he was finally going to let himself.]

We can talk about whatever is going on, later. The most important thing is that you're here and I'm awake now. I'm here for you.

[If he wasn't so exhausted and relieved, he isn't sure if he'd take offense at that or not. He knew the man didn't mean it patronizingly, of course, but he was stressed to a ridiculous degree and working on far too little sleep. Taking something the wrong way would be so easy.

Of course he had been strong and carried on. It's not like he was someone who would give up so easily. He had a will that wouldn't be extinguished in its own rite.

And he hadn't been working alone all this time. There were various forces at work in Somarium, he was just trying to do his best to add to their efforts.

But he was exhausted and far too happy to hear Byakuran's voice and have the reassurances, so he took the comments as they were intended and nodded quietly.

It probably helped that the hand on his back felt really really good too.]

I'm still worried about you, you know. You were asleep so long, you must be aching and starving.

I don't know how I really feel, to be honest...

A little blank, maybe. Like my body's awake, but my mind and soul are still trying to catch up.

[Smiling, his other hand came up to stroke Shouichi's hair, twirling a wavy strand of red around his finger.] You shouldn't worry so much. You worry about so many other things. Your blood pressure has probably skyrocketed! Don't have a heart-attack, okay?

[There was a slight glance away, before he murmured.] I'm more likely to drop dead of exhaustion or stomach ulcers than a heart attack, trust me. [Gave a sigh at that and shook his head a little, speaking up more clearly.]

I'll admit, I may have been over-doing it a little, even for me, while you've been asleep.

[He didn't want to have the time to fixate on just how long Byakuran had been asleep after all. And Somarium had provided him with all too many things to keep him busy.

But now with that weight of worry off his shoulders, the other concerns were a bit more bearable. He ran his hand slowly up and down Byakuran's back, watching his face.]

[There was a long look of disbelief at the endearment. That was a new one. And one of the worst yet.]

Your little what now? Byakuran-san, I swear, I think you try and outdo yourself...

And I don't know if I can afford a vacation right now. People are missing and trapped. We have to find them and I can help. But... maybe after things settle down. Even just a little. I want to sleep for a week.

[There was a hesitant pause as what he said sinks in and then there is a rush of explanation.]. . . I mean! I don't mean literally! I don't want anyone sleeping for a week or longer at all! But you know what I mean, right?

[Gokudera squints in the semi-darkness. The hell was that about? Was that fucking mood lighting or something? DISGUSTING.

[That semi-visual does not improve his mood any or his disgruntled assessment of Shouichi's place. Too many fucking plants. He lets the take-out mess slide because he knows he's not the best at cleaning dishes or picking up where the kitchen is concerned]

Comb your hair, for one. [He can't help it, OK. Gokudera is already default-gruff with Shouichi, but he also takes personal offense to poor grooming, especially in regards to hair]

Do you have any soda? [He needs nicotine, but courtesy of being in the old man's house, he will forgo a cigarette in exchange for caffeine]

I'm glad he has as well. It was getting to be more than a little concerning. And I'll let him know in case he ever needs the extra help. I'm hoping he'll actually hire someone to help honestly, but we'll see.

Eh? [There is an embarrassed ducking of his head as he hurriedly runs his fingers through his hair to tame it into something a little more presentable.]

[He hoped Gokudera wanted the caffeine because this stuff was supposedly known for it. He pulls a can out of the fridge and returns with it, holding it out to the teen.

He's still kind of confused... why... he was... here though...]

[And he mutters a "thanks" which almost sounds more like a curse, because he's not entirely accustomed to being the most charming, especially around Shouichi. But Gokudera does have manners, however seldom-used because, ATTITUDE.

[He snaps the cap on the can and takes a big sip, nodding that it was good. The fizz down his throat and bubbling in his chest was a tolerable substitute]

[Yep. Suffice it to say, when Gokudera finally gets to point, it's straight to it, without much explanation or fanfare along the way. And he just looks at Shouichi for a response]

Mm, Byakuran-san is what you'd call the... ambitious sort....

[Well "sweet young man" part earns Karen some A+ sputtering there and one can practically hear him blush through the phone. It takes a moment before he clears his throat and continues.]

W-Well, it meant a lot that people helped me out, the least I can do is return the favor.

You mean right now? I think I dozed off while working on a more efficient means to monitor, report, and analyze the -- [And he's cut off by his own yawn] -- different types of dream energy gathered by the network.

What side-project? [Gokudera asks with a frown, the kind that suggests concentration and interest more than the usual irritation. The whole business about dream energy isn't relevant to his interests, unless there's more to it than boring, pointless data collection. He had better things to do than pour over spreadsheets, like skip school and find things in Espoir to use vandalize as target practice]

I have a few, but the one I've been working on the most is improved software for a tracking chip I made here in Somarium.

[Oh yeah, he'd been planning on telling you guys about that and suggesting giving it to the Vongola to keep track of each other, but then things had gone a bit sour.... whoops.]

[Shakes his head a little, smiling a little sadly.] You know, I'm glad you called because I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it when I found it there.

It'd be kind of a waste to not reopen it then, right? You interested in running the place? I'm really not qualified for it myself. All I'd ask is that maybe I could swing by and pretend to help out sometimes?
